A South African love poem

LOVE by Lachlan www.artvarkie.co.za

I smaak you stukkend, please say you'll be mine,
You're my moon, my stars and my beach day sunshine.
You're so handsome, it makes me go 'wow',
You're better than a proper Durban bunnychow.
You're my beaded love letter, my breeze in the night,
You're my tea, my koeksister, my Blitz firelight
You're my Discovery, my Tracker, my ADT
My pap, Mrs Balls Chutney, my Nandos for free:
You're my lamb chop, my gumdrop, my partner in crime,
My chilli, my roti, my samoosa sublime.

The list is just endless and that isn't all.
You're my Lotto jackpot, my Bioplus, my zol.
Bru', you're my 4X4 when the road is hilly,
You're the Clover pure butter on my mielie.
One look from you and I can float to the sky
I feel like the Springboks have just scored a try.
At this rate Kulula's popularity might die,
'Cos for me you're the only and best way to fly :)
This, my snoekie, is the only start,
'Cos you're taken the cable car straight to my heart!
So, if I were the fork, then would you please be my
knife?

' Cos , bokkie, you're the tomato sauce on the slap
chips of my life!

Sir, in my dreams you instructed me to:

"Be the Light... Shine!

p.s. this poem was sent to me by our lovely friend Natalie Ground...

RE: Don Franklin

Dear Russell

Thank you for emailing us about Great Uncle Don’s passing.  He was a great man and he will always be fondly remembered.

Yesterday Bruce and I showed our friends our family bible (from the Baker side, over 200 years old) and out fell a copy of the hand-written family tree GU Don was inspired to begin.  I do believe he would enjoy it if we continued to piece together the family tree, right back to Benjamin Franklin.  Our thoughts are with you and your family during this time and if there is anything we can do for you and the family from South Africa, please feel free to ask.  I am so happy that GU Don got to spend such a wonderful time with you all last year, even if it took an attack to make the visit happen and I am grateful for his genuine affection that shone through in his many emails to me.  I only really got to know him after many on my side of the family passed away.  I really got the impression this morning that I was sitting between the two brothers who were holding my hands, which subsequently began to sweat.  I am proud to be part of the Franklin line – Franklin Baker Castle – and gain much strength from having known him.

Fondest regards,

Philippa & Bruce

Subject: Don Franklin

Dear friends,

I am writing to let you all know that my dad Don Franklin passed away this morning at about 1am 30th June.  As some of you will know he was struggling with prostrate problems, and about a week ago his condition deteriorated dramatically and my sister Donna admitted him into hospital.  Since then his health further declined and the doctors were not sure of the main cause of his problems but there were obviously other contributing factors.  Apparently yesterday they determined that he had chronic septicaemia and started him on medication for that.  For a couple of days he drifted in and out of consciousness, and Donna said he was a mere shadow of his former self.  At this point I do not know exactly what caused my dad's death, but it probably was the septicaemia.  Perhaps we will never know for sure.

I am very grateful to The Lord that he has taken my dad without him suffering for months in hospital.  Up to a few weeks ago he was fairly fit and managing to do most things for himself.  His prostrate problems were causing him some considerable discomfort, and it was difficult for him to get the correct medical care in Zimbabwe.  Even so my sister Donna was a source of great strength, and looked after his interests to the best of her considerable ability.  I am very grateful to her and my sister Gay, both of whom looked after him when he needed them most.

I will always remember my dad with pride, he was a man to respect.

Some of you might find it strange to receive this email, but I have emailed those from my dad's address book and also my friends who knew him.  Sorry if you have received this in error.

Kind regards,

Russell and family

Happy Anniversary Love

I am still not sorry Sir, and with a little Hop & much Faith I trust this is an acceptable farm for you...

T'was a funny week, this week that has been, the 7 days between my birthday on the 5th and now (an hour and a half before our 11th wedding anniversary). There was a fire burning within me that I could barely contain. My river of love burning, how could that be? The sushi was delicious! To take a long arm dance with Dr Tequila from Goose Bay and be spun and twirled and thrown high in the air under your watchful, loving eye leaves me reflecting on the pain I willingly attract unto myself. Oh those beautful bruises on my knees... Yes, of course I love my bruices! The Jackal Buzzards at 7 Queen Victoria Str need their new home please. Pretty please, with a cherry on top. Honeysuckle Cottage will do very nicely thank you ever so much!
The Easter weekend spent at times with delightful Muslim guests staying in Fynbos Cottage & Protea Studio at Oak Grove Farm, the kids running from the dogs, feeding the fish, sitting on my lap and lovingly asking for my attention as well as giving Bach Flower Therapy to "Goddess Granny Thor" was absolutely lovely. As they say, if you're not with the ones you love, love the ones you're with!
With thanks and rememberance to those who have gone before on Flouhoogte. Ou man Fourie, Pietman and his family and the ladies who used to dry & sort the everlasting flowers and read the Die Huisvrou Weekblad up in the roof of Honeysuckle Cottage during 1940 - 1942. There were articles on what was considered "gooie maniere" and how to cook pumpkin fritters, but there was no mention of the World War I. Funny that, it's like here, now, in South Africa, it is peaceful and that is wonderful. On the other side of our planet bombs are going off somewhere. There is a balance, there must always be a balance, whether it be Phi 1.618 or Chi or Ki or Energy or Pi. When we are out of balance we can assume we can put ourselves back into balance, but even impeccable balance is but momentary, be that moment even a long moment. There is only now.
My father gambled with his life, or so he said, he worked hard, ate well, drank & smoked, he gave generously, he broke promises, he let us down. He came to visit me 2 out of about 6 times that I'd been in hospital. After his 1st heart attack his lifestyle did not change much, but after his 2nd heart attack and then a 3rd attack with triple bypass surgery, he began to realise he was living on what he called "borrowed time". And he really began to love life and to love all manner of people. Of course he still had his quirks and intolerances, but he was the kindest most lovable father. I hated him when I was 13 and then when I was 26 I had completely grown in what I called "full-circle relationship". Allan Clive Baker, dad, was the master of ceremonies at our wedding. He asks me to ask you, in my imagination of course, if you are able still to handle me?
Heart attacks, according to Internationally renonowned metaphysical teacher, Louise Hay, are all about something to do with lacking love? The parting thoughts from my father are to Suck on a Tit, Sit on a Shit and Sort out This!
I say: "Let's Live and Let's Love!" and as the Ladybird, who is so small and fragile and with so short and adult life cycle, says to the other Ladybird "Let Go and Let God!" and you will be amazed at the miracles, luck and small pleasures.
Happy Anniversay for the 11th time. 11, numerologically speaking is a profoundly powerful number. This is the year for us to come into our own. I love you and as yet do not fully understand the almighty power of love, but give me another 40 years and I'll give it the best damn shot I can.

In Gratitude, humour and remembrance...

Dear GANDALPH,

Thank you for being Sir's guardian angel and for making yourself so apparent in my life, truly heard and truly felt. Your sometime presence is literally a Godsend to me at times, like those times when I feel my little universe is truly crumbling under my feet.

OK, I'll 'fess up here, when you first shouted (or should I say screamed?) at me from the top of Mnt Maccapucare I could not deny the validity or timing of your precise and truthful words, "Is his unconditional love not good enough for you?"

I must admit though, I really liked the humour in your comment about the fact that you'd been hearing Sir complain so much about the fact that I never listened, that you actually believed him and so thought the volume was absolutely vital. I also acknowledge that a good first impression was also important in order for me to believe.

I'd like to remember that the first time I met you - you were coming down from the top of the "Fish Tail" section of Mnt Maccapucare and whispered quiet words of wisdom to me.

My aplogies for the photo, but it was the best I could do with a few clicks of the button, and anyway, it was directly instrumental in me writing this to you. I know this is only the second time I have written to you and the first was a list of 10 urgently needed requirements, so before I go any further I would like to thank you (and Gabi and SAS) for blowing me away and delivering virtually on cue. Thank you thank you thank you. It has been a rough rapid in the river of life since then, but I'm still in my boat, I've got my life-jacket, helmet and paddle, the support of awesome family and friends as well as the entire Universe, or so it seems. Everyone is just so friendly and lovely and sometimes I still giggle like a 16 year old when I remember how lucky I am to be alive.
Yes, yes, I remember that it was made manifest in the newspaper that "she is the luckiest little girl in Cape Town". Well, all I can say is that with Guardian Angels like you around, I am certainly not surprised!
If I may promise you one thing, it shall be this: "I shall endeavour to love Sir as unconditionally as he loves me" and I declare that: "To err is human, to forgive Divine and I forgive you, so I'm Divine..."

Buried at PhotoCasket.com

Note to Sir: When I got stuck in that grade 4+ hole on the Marsyandi and lost a lot of confidence, remember that it all came back after messing up in another rapid yet still Eskimo rolling and feeling the returning surege of exhilirating adrenaline...

British Airways Bad Landing

A very bumpy landing...
We all have our off days and i've been meaning write in my blog and apologise to god for not writing my bible as regularly as promised. I am feeling more grounded, more calm and more peaceful. In the last two days I have had two cars almost hit me from behind (a "botzing" as I had been contemplating to myself 30 seconds before hand - I mentioned to the Universe that I did not want to have a botzing now as the coca-cola between my legs would make an awfully sticky mess). Anyway, You know I vow to thee my country all earthly things above, entire and whole and perfect, the service of my love. The love that asks no questions, the love that stands the test, the love that makes undaunted, the final sacrifice.
Love P

Fly Fishing in Stanford

Fly Fishing in Stanford – It’s a Rainbow Wopper Dad! \

    By Philippa Castle

Just outside Stanford, on the road to Salmonsdam Nature Reserve, you’ll find a dam with a view at “Vaalvlei”, stocked with Rainbow Trout for the budding enthusiast to practice their skills and learn to master the art of fly-fishing.

Recently, one of those enthusiastic amateurs (name withheld due to embarrassment factor) and under the expert tuition of Peter Ground, who came out for an afternoon’s fishing and relaxation with his family, managed to hook not only his first Rainbow Trout, but 2 bushes out behind himself and an ear lobe!  Didn’t you hear?  Flies are all the rage now in the body piercing world!

Owners of Vaalvlei, Naas and Elsabe de Villiers, hail from the Porterville region and bring to Stanford, amongst many other things, their extensive knowledge of frogs & years of experience with Bonsai plants, which “are now growing exceptionally well in the Stanford area.  They are offering locals and tourists alike, private fishing for the day on their farm, at R100 per person for two trout, no catch and release is permitted.  Their entrance is opposite the gates of Oak Grove Farm self-catering accommodation.

Rainbow Trout - Pan fry it, bake it, braai it, grill it or smoke it, either way you’ll enjoy it… it’s delicious!

tickle me... Silver

MamaSilver, you should renew your relationship with a little Laughter

Smile! They say laughter is the best medicine, and it could be just what you and your sweetie need to rekindle your fun-filled romance. There's nothing like some good old-fashioned fun to take you back to those special times when you and your sweetheart first met.

All you two jokesters need to get the party started is a little private time. Spend an evening laughing it up at a comedy club, hit an amusement park, or head to a carnival and bring out your inner child. Once you've brought back the laughter, the good times are sure to keep rolling!

Big laughs call for a big smile.

The Happiness Test

Seven Secrets to a Happy Life

MamaSilver, you're happier than 88 percent of the other people who took Tickle's Happiness Test.

How do Tickle's experts know this? Because they measured your overall happiness level in relation to other test takers. To do this, they examined your attitudes and behaviours in the seven proven areas of life that are known to determine your happiness: Contentment, Confidence, Gratitude, Personal Growth, Cheerfulness, Relationships, and Optimism.

For example, your test results show that your level of gratitude is one of the things that helps you to feel happier overall. This means that for the most part you have a strong sense of appreciation for life's blessings. You probably also tend to view life as deep and rich with meaning. By regularly reflecting on the good around you or using prayer, you are the kind of person who can cultivate a continuous sense of thankfulness for the whole experience of living.

While your gratitude has a positive impact on how happy you are, it's still not the biggest factor that affects your overall happiness. Want to know which area of your life makes you the happiest?

What's Behind Your Emotions?

Why You Feel the Way You Do

MamaSilver, your emotions are triggered by your underlying belief in Compassion

In other words, your uncompromisingly compassionate nature directly affects how, and how often, you experience certain feelings.

For example, your test results indicate that you're most fulfilled when you can lend a helping hand to those who really need it. That factor is directly related to your fundamental belief in compassion and the range of emotions it triggers.

Based on your belief in compassion, where do you rank in the emotional landscape? Which of your emotions dominate your life? And how can you learn to control your emotions?

The Religion Test

Find the Faith That Fits Your Beliefs

MamaSilver, your belief system is best suited to religions that value solitary rituals

How do we know? While you were taking this test, we compared your religious beliefs against 10 of the world's most common religions. Your score shows that you share core beliefs with a religion that encourages highly personal expressions of spirituality.

You are attracted to a religion that encompasses a huge diversity of beliefs and a highly personal relationship with nature and its cycles. You are attracted to spiritual groups that are composed of people who primarily worship in solitude, creating rituals of personal significance in an expression of their own highly individual spirituality.

The Chakra Test

Understanding the Energy Centers of Your Body

MamaSilver, your most positive energy is flowing from your First Chakra

This chakra is located at the base of your spine and is usually called the root or base chakra. The first chakra represents evolutionary life force and is associated with both physical energy and overall vitality. In your case, this chakra appears to be clear and unblocked so that positive energy can flow from it freely. Radiating positive energy from your first chakra indicates that you've cultivated higher wisdom concerning important life lessons associated with this energy center. You likely experience a solid feeling of safety and security in your day-to-day life. You seem to know on a deep level that those you love are truly there for you. Having strong first chakra energy means that you aren't apt to be as swayed by life's small ups and downs as many people are. Your positivity in this area also shows that you generally feel grounded and understand that your life's foundation is solid.

Sir, alias Glimmerman, as at 15 April 2006... tarot

Glimmerman, you selected the following three cards, in this order, that represent your

past, present and future:

Your present

Your past

Your future

The Major Arcana

History of the Tarot

While we often think we are aware of all that is happening in our lives, sometimes the card we choose regarding the Present provides deeper insight than we are able to tap into on our own. Carefully consider the Tarot's following assessment of your present, and see what the cards are trying to teach you about situations occurring in your life right now.

Justice

Approximately 85% people who pick The Justice card in the second position say that it accurately matches what's happening at the present time.

Justice represents the primary influence on the current state of your life. Right now, in your present, you may be in a situation that requires a judgment or decision to be made, either by you or regarding you. Getting this card in this position may be a sign that the person making the decision will weigh the pros and cons of the situation with balance and fairness. Beware of bias in this situation, and follow the path of honest and just conclusions.

Justice represents fairness and honor. In the card, she holds a sword in one hand and the balance scales in the other. She sees things clearly, without obstruction. With all the evidence at hand, and armed with open-mindedness and unwavering honesty, Justice allows for fair and balanced decisions. This card signifies that the right thing will happen in the end.

There are a number of ways this card could be playing out right now. Some possibilities include:

*                     You may be faced with a decision in your love life that requires balanced fairness.

*                     You may be involved in a financial dispute that should be determined by an unbiased third party.

*                     Your may need to make a decision regarding your health in opposition to your other needs and desires. This could also relate to a legal claim regarding an injury or malpractice.

Understanding our past decisions and situations can help us derive more from the lessons life is trying to teach us. It's never too late to acknowledge the truths of our past and bring that wisdom into our present and future.

The Magician

72% of people who are dealt The Magician in the first position say that it accurately represents their past.

The Magician exerted a significant impact on your past. This means that at some point in your past, you were guided by a full and unleashed creativity. You were likely very fruitful in your self-expressions, no matter what your outlet, and you had the wherewithal to turn your greatest ideas into reality. Your intuitive approach to life, and the reactions it elicited from others, brought you to the point you're at today.

The second card in the Major Arcana, the Magician is creative and imaginative. In this card, the Magician points his ward toward the heavens and his other hand toward the earth. His tools are laid out on the table—a cup, a sword, a wand, and a pentacle (five-pointed star)—representing the suits in the Minor Arcana. The infinity sign hovers over his head, representing the never-ending flow of life. The red of the roses symbolize passion, and the white of the lilies represent intellect. The Magician is a sign that you can create your own reality, and that something exciting is developing. With this card, if you ask for what you need on your path to reaching your full potential, you may receive it.

This card may have affected the overall tenor of your life, or just a particular area. Following are a few possibilities of how you experienced these influences in your past:

*                     You may have been able to relate to your family members creatively, influencing your family's way of doing things with your unique approach to life.

*                     In your social life, you may have enjoyed relationships in which you connected with other creative people.

*                     You may approached your love life intuitively, trusting your gut instincts despite the views of others or logical assessments.

Now that the Tarot has offered its insight into your past and your present, it's time to look forward into the world of what's yet to happen. Read on to see what the cards predict for your near future.

Knowing what may be coming up in our future allows us to prepare ourselves for the unexpected. The card that represents your future will reveal which lessons are coming up next in your life. You may learn that you're about to enter into a particularly fruitful or easy time, or the cards may predict that you're about to be confronted with the opportunity to learn some of life's more challenging lessons. We each have lessons to learn, and if we avoid them, the cards tell us that they will simply reappear until they are addressed. When life lessons come your way, allow the cards' insight to guide your way as you work through these challenges. Keep in mind that if you successfully learn your lessons, you can then move on to new ones.

The Empress

This card is the strongest indicator of what your future will hold.

Your future, as it currently stands, is represented by the third card you chose. The Empress is a sign that a cycle of great abundance is coming your way. In some area of your life, you'll receive the comfort and care you've been longing for, and peace and contentment will be yours. When an opportunity presents itself, take initiative and the Empress will lead you into a time of great prosperity and allow you to forge a connection to your higher self.

The Empress is card four in the Major Arcana. In this card, the Empress has twelve stars on her crown, representing each of the Zodiac signs. Her heart-shaped shield symbolizes the planet Venus' resonant love and affection. She is surrounded by signs of nature, including the wheat chaffs at her feet and the forest surrounding her. This card represents abundance and great happiness. The Empress is Mother Nature, representing fertility, a thriving romantic relationship, and life contentment. She is your nurturing, mothering side, bringing you comfort and peace.

More than any other step of life's journey, this card represents the lessons you must learn and the experiences in store for you in your upcoming karmic destiny. This may impact you in any number of ways, including:

*                     A romantic relationship that will give you nurturing and contentment when you need it most.

*                     A project or job that will allow you to have more room to show your unique talents and achieve the success you deserve.

*                     The resolution of a conflict with a family member that will bring you newfound peace.
